small shows are good shows

In Uncategorized on August 23, 2011 at 5:48 pm

thoughts on intimate performances:

kalamandir of nj dance school recently performed in two small shows celebrating two very important events in indian culture & history: independence day & janmashtami (krishna’s birthday). in both of the performances, the students were asked to perform in an intimate space right in front of their viewers. often times, with children, it is more intimidating to see the expressions of your loved ones sitting in the audience – but kalamandir students never budged. i always found that for me, performing for the community was just as important as performing for the outside world – it is your community that shows endless support and they are the ones that provided the platform for your future. i am so proud to be a part of kalamandir of nj dance school, and cannot wait for all the wonderful things that are coming its way!
